Terra Vista of Oakbrook Terrace, a new assisted living community at Ardmore and Roosevelt roads, has opened a information office at 100 East Roosevelt, suite 35, which is across Roosevelt in the Outback Steakhouse shopping center of Villa Park.

The information office demonstrates best practices for dementia care that include the use of alternative therapies and advanced technology to enhance brain health and the connection to family and friends. The office contains original artwork created by residents living with memory loss as an example of art therapy. There also are examples of technology use to show how a family can communicate with their friend or relative with dementia residing at Terra Vista, and stay informed of activity involvement and care updates.

Construction is underway for the two-story community that will specialize solely in Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia, and is expected to open in the spring. Kensington Management Group of Morton Grove has more than 40 years of experience as skilled care and assisted living operators and is the management oversight and lead developer of this community.

Nancy McCaffrey, director of senior housing development for the Kensington Management Group, invites those searching for a home for someone with dementia to schedule a visit at the office.

“Our new community will take dementia care to the next level,” McCaffrey said. “The design of the building with its incorporation of technology will set Terra Vista apart from anything previously available to those living with dementia.”

Natalie McFarland also joins the team as a registered nurse and executive director for Terra Vista. McFarland has more than 10 years experience providing care to people with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. In addition to being a certified Alzheimer’s and dementia care trainer, McFarland is a licensed continued education instructor for nurses and social workers through the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations.

“I am fortunate to be part of the management group that understands and acknowledges the importance of quality care and family support for those living with Alzheimer’s,” McFarland said. “Our key message at Terra Vista is when someone you care about has dementia, we understand it’s a diagnosis for your whole family.”
